What is a Cataract?
A cataract occurs when the lens of the eye becomes opaque or clouded. When this happens, it interferes with vision by preventing light from passing through the lens to focus on the retina at the back of the eye. The lens of your eye works much like the lens of a camera, so that when it is fogged or clouded it creates a hazy or blurred image.
Symptoms that many Philadelphia cataracts sufferers experience may include a gradual decrease in vision over time, or problems reading, watching TV and driving at night. Although often associated with the normal aging process, cataracts can also occur in people in their 40's and 50's or even younger. Contrary to popular belief, a cataract does not have to become "ripe" before being removed. The time to remove a cataract is when it interferes with normal vision.
The good news is that cataracts are one of the most treatable causes of poor vision, and our Philadelphia cataracts specialists offer the most advanced cataract procedure available. Kremer offers cutting-edge lenses (IOLs) that can reduce or eliminate your need for glasses/bifocals after cataract surgery. Click here to learn more about these IOLs.
