Mark Blecher, M.D.

Training: Dr. Blecher graduated cum laude
from Brandeis University and received his
medical degree from Albert Einstein College
of Medicine in 1983. He completed his
residency at Wills Eye Hospital where, during
his third year, he was also Co-Chief Resident.
He joined Philadelphia Eye Associates, a
general ophthalmology group practice in
1986 and continued his association with
Wills Eye Hospital, joining the teaching staff
the next year. He is a Board Certified
ophthalmologist who has been practicing
since 1986 and has been performing
refractive surgery for over a decade.
LASIK Experience: With the advent of LASIK, refractive surgery has taken a giant step
forward and Dr. Blecher was one of the first to perform LASIK following FDA approval. He
was instrumental in bringing modern refractive surgery to Wills Eye Hospital in 1990 and has
studied with some of the most experienced LASIK surgeons in the country. Dr. Blecher has
taught the procedure to many surgeons, and is today the Medical Director of Kremer Laser
Eye Center in Cherry Hill. He is also one of the most experienced surgeons performing
CustomLASIK in the region.He is Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Thomas
Jefferson University and Attending Surgeon at Wills Eye Hospital, St. Agnes Hospital and
Methodist Hospital.
Accomplishments: He has studied with some of the most experienced LASIK surgeons in the
country and has performed thousands of LASIK surgeries in the past few years. Dr. Blecher is
one of a select group of doctors certified to train other ophthalmic surgeons.
Memberships: Dr. Blecher has remained active teaching surgeons and residents, presenting
papers and giving instructional courses at the American Academy of Ophthalmology's annual
meeting as well as the annual meeting of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive
Surgeons. He is also Co-Director of the Cataract and Primary Eye Care Service of the Wills
Eye Hospital and has lectured abroad. In addition, he is currently Senior Medical Editor of
"Review of Ophthalmology," a widely read and respected medical publication.
