Clear Lens Extraction
Clear Lens Extraction
is a procedure used for patients who are not candidates for LASIK or
other refractive procedures. Originally used for cataract surgery, Clear lens extraction
is now being used on patients with very high degrees of myopia (nearsightedness)
and moderate and high degrees of hyperopia (farsightedness) to decrease
or eliminate their need for glasses or corrective lenses. The procedure
involves dissolving the patient's natural clear lens and replacing it
with an intraocular lens implant of the correct power. The procedure
is done on one eye at a time and in general, the opening is so small
that no stitches are required. Once you undergo clear lens extraction, you will not
need cataract surgery in the future.
